How Often Will We Meet With Our Financial Advisor?
One of the most common questions people ask before hiring a financial advisor is, "How often will we meet?" The answer depends less on a fixed schedule and more on what's happening in your life.
At Coastal Wealth Management, we don't believe financial planning should be limited to a predetermined number of meetings each year. Your financial life isn't static, and your advisor shouldn't be either.
There Is No Maximum Number of Meetings
Unlike some firms that limit the number of annual meetings, we don't place a cap on how often we meet with our clients.
If something important happens, we want to talk.
Life is constantly changing, and many of those changes have financial implications. Whether you're retiring, changing jobs, receiving an inheritance, selling a business, buying a home, welcoming a new child, or simply have questions about the market, we're here when you need us.
Our philosophy is simple:
When your life changes, your financial plan should too.
We'll Meet More Frequently During Your First Year
The first year of working together is often the busiest.
There's a lot to accomplish as we build your financial plan and implement your recommendations. It's common for new clients to meet with us several times during the onboarding process.
These meetings may include:
Transferring and organizing investment accounts
Reviewing your current financial situation
Developing your retirement plan
Discussing tax planning opportunities
Reviewing insurance and estate planning
Creating an investment strategy and asset allocation
Answering questions as you become comfortable with the process
Rather than trying to fit everything into one long meeting, we prefer to work through each step thoughtfully so you understand the recommendations and feel confident moving forward.
At a Minimum, We Recommend Meeting Once Per Year
Even if everything seems to be going well, we strongly encourage every client to meet with us at least once each year.
Annual review meetings allow us to:
Review your investment portfolio
Evaluate progress toward your financial goals
Discuss tax planning opportunities
Update retirement projections
Review beneficiary designations and estate planning
Talk through any changes in your family or career
Answer new questions that have come up
We've found that many clients don't realize certain life events affect their financial plan until we start asking questions. During these conversations, people often remember something they hadn't thought to mention—a new job, changes to employee benefits, an upcoming inheritance, a family health issue, a planned home purchase, or even a retirement date that's beginning to take shape.
Those conversations often uncover planning opportunities that might otherwise have been missed.
Meeting at least once each year helps ensure nothing important falls through the cracks.
We Adapt to Your Life
Some years may only require an annual review. Other years may involve several meetings because life is changing quickly.
There is no "correct" number of meetings.
Our goal isn't to meet simply because the calendar says it's time. Our goal is to be available when you need advice and to proactively reach out when we believe it's time to review your plan.
Financial planning is an ongoing relationship—not a one-time event.
The Bottom Line
At Coastal Wealth Management, we believe your advisor should be accessible throughout life's biggest moments. We don't limit the number of meetings you can have, and we don't believe in forcing unnecessary appointments.
We'll meet as often as needed based on your goals and what's happening in your life, while encouraging every client to schedule at least one comprehensive review each year.
That approach helps keep your financial plan current, your investments aligned with your goals, and gives you confidence that you're making informed financial decisions as life evolves.
